Guests are treated to a unique experience when staying at the four diamond Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Originally the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railway Station, this six story neo-classical building built in 1908 is a delight to behold and, in December 1977, was placed on The United States National Register of Historic Places. The hotel has recently undergone a multi-million dollar restoration aimed at providing guests with the perfect combination of old-world charm and new-world efficiency. Architectural highlights to look out for include the Grand Lobby’s faience tile murals, Siena marble walls and barrel vaulted Tiffany ceiling of stained glass.

Whether you are traveling on a budget or whether the sky’s the limit, the Radisson Lackawanna will have the room to suit your pocket. Guests looking to work while they play should choose the Executive Suite with its business-friendly work area while those looking only to relax should jump into the Jacuzzi Suite. Large families belong in the Hospitality Suite and, if you want to pamper yourself, choose the Phoebe Snow Suite, named after the famous Hoboken to Buffalo train that stopped at the station once a day. For your everyday trip, choose the Guest Rooms, with their king- or queen-sized beds and their unassuming but elegant furnishings. All suites also offer such amenities as complimentary highspeed internet access, cable tv, room service from 6.30am through midnight and data port telephones.

Carmen's Resteraunt And Wine Bar

Fine dining is on the menu at the Radisson Lackawanna and the hotel offers guests a Sunday Grand Brunch as well as a choice between two restaurants. Carmen’s Ristorante and Wine Bar is the epitome of an elegant eatery and serves fresh seafood, handmade pasta and mouthwatering steaks. Combine this with tempting deserts and an adventurous wine list and there is no need to leave the hotel to find the perfect Scranton dining experience. For those who are light eaters, there is the Trax Bar and Grill featuring homemade soups and sandwiches and their magical selection of martinis and imported beers.

The Radisson Lackawanna caters for functions involving groups of 10 through 1,000 people. Larger parties can marvel at the splendor of The Station Ballroom, with its gigantic windows overlooking the old train tracks and its restored cathedral ceiling, as well as the sheer elegance of the Scranton Ballroom lit by its chandeliers of Austrian crystal. For smaller parties, the hotel has three meeting rooms and four executive boardrooms, all with audio-visual equipment and internet access. With Banquet Captains on hand to assist at every turn and with catering options that include custom menus, no other place in Scranton is as well equipped to host your wedding reception or business meeting.

Scranton was once known as the Anthracite Coal Capital of the World and no trip to Scranton would be complete without learning about the city’s fascinating history. The Radisson Lackawanna, apart from being an historic site itself, lies so close to the major attractions that there is no excuse not to visit them. For the adventurous, there is the Lackawanna Coal Mine Tour which takes you 300ft underground to see how coal mines work and, for the cautious, there is the Anthracite Heritage Museum. If the weather is chilly, stay indoors and tour the Electric City Trolley Station and Museum or, for that extra bit of magic, try the Houdini Museum. There is also the Everhart Museum with its unusual exhibits and Steamtown National Historic Site where you can explore the resident locomotives. If you are feeling sporty, try Stone Hedge Golf Course, McDade Park with its pool and nature trails or the Montage Mountain skiing resort.

Situated at 700 Lackawanna Avenue in downtown Scranton, the Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel is only a few minutes from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport and is also close to several major interstates. Such accessibility is just another reason to let this marvelous hotel pamper you during your next vacation!

Are you planning a trip to Scranton, Pennsylvania? Whether you’re traveling for business or for pleasure, Scranton has accommodations to meet your needs as well as plenty to see and do during your stay.

About Scranton

Scranton is located in the northeast area of Pennsylvania. The city is best described as being hilly, having mountains on both the east and west sides. It is approximately 25 square miles with a population of just under 77,000 people.

Scranton is especially colorful in the fall when the leaves turn to bright red, yellow and orange in the city as well as the surrounding mountains.

Getting To Scranton By Plane

If you will be flying into Scranton, the closest airport is the Wilkes Barre/Scranton International Airport, which is just 15 minutes from the city. Should you wish to fly into New York, New Jersey or Philadelphia, JFK, LaGuardia, Newark and Philadelphia International Airports are all within a three hour drive of Scranton.

If you need a rental car, you’ll find all the major rental car companies located at the airport terminal of any of the above airports. While it is best to reserve your car in advance of your trip to make sure that the kind of car you want is available, you can get your rental car on the spot when you arrive if you need to.

Getting Around The City

The best way to travel around Scranton is by car, however the city is also served by COLTS – the Lackawanna Transit System – which has buses that run throughout Scranton as well as the outlaying portions of the city. Should you choose to ride the bus, you should be aware that it will take you approximately twice as long to reach your destination as it would by car, and the buses are not in service on Sundays or major holidays.

If you don’t have a rental car and don’t have the extra time to take the bus, a third option is to use a private taxi service. Should this method of travel fit your needs, you will need to call a taxi company by phone as taxis in Scranton cannot be hired on the street the way they can in other cities.

It is generally safe to walk in Scranton, so if you have a rental car you can park it in a parking garage for the day and see the city on foot. Downtown Scranton is comprised of about 24 city blocks, and many of the city’s tourist attractions will be found here.

Where To Stay In Scranton

Scranton offers a variety of hotels to meet your travel needs, whether you’re traveling to the city for business or you’re vacationing with the kids. Here are a few for you to consider.

If you’ll be visiting Scranton for business purposes, The Hilton Scranton & Conference Center, The Inn At Nichols Village, and Courtyard by Marriott will each be able to accommodate you with amenities such as high speed internet and airport shuttle service, as well as other amenities which vary by location such as fax machines and business phones.

Will you be in Scranton for pleasure? The Holiday Inn Scranton, which houses the city’s only tropical atrium, is a comfortable hotel that offers many amenities, including an indoor pool, jacuzzi and fitness room for guests.

The Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel is a great place to unwind. This six story hotel, which was once a train station, has been completely renovated and updated is now a historic landmark. Guests can enjoy a massage, a workout in the fitness center, or a leisurely meal at Carmen’s Ristorante and Wine Bar – the hotel’s restaurant.

What To Do In Scranton

There’s something for the whole family in Scranton. Do you like to ski? Try the slopes at Sno Mountain. And if you’re visiting during the summer when skiing isn’t in season, you’ll be able to enjoy Sno Cove – the resort’s water park. Sno Cove offers fun for even the youngest family member, and the water is a cool treat on a hot day.

The Lackawanna Coal Mine was once a real working mine and is now open for tours. The Mine is at the top of the list for things to do in Scranton. When you begin the tour, you’ll get on board a mine car that will take you deep into the mine. When the tour is over, stop by the Pennsylvania Anthracite Heritage Museum, which is next to the mine, to discover more about the region’s mining and people.

Steamtown National Historic Site is a fun place as well as one of the top destinations for train lovers. If you like to get up close and personal with locomotives, Steamtown is a must see!

It’s all here in Scranton, Pennsylvania!

i think it’s filmed in my hometown, burbank for several reasons: the episode where michael threatens to jump off the office building has scenery very similar to burbank. also, in the episode where they go ice skating, shots of the wall clearly show posters of “pickwick ice” and “pickwick gardens” which are both operated in burbank, ca. interestingly so, none of the episodes are featured in a snowy or wintry landscape, as would be expected of an office situated in pennsylvania.

burbank is also known as the media capital of the world, so i wouldn’t be surprised. i looked around online for where it’s filmed though, and i came up with nothing.

I love Obama asked:

Obama steals Hillary lines to pander to voters. Why does Obama think that words will earn your votes and not action.
Even Friday, Obama borrowed pieces of Clinton’s stump speech during a stop at a glass factory near Scranton, employing the same rhetoric that helped Clinton win in Pennsylvania.
“I have to say to you: I’m not perfect, but the one thing people can’t deny is that for my entire public life, I’ve been fighting for folks like you, ordinary, middle-class families and working families, helping them getting ahead,” Obama said.

LOOK AT ALL THE OBAMA LIES:

We checked the accuracy of Obama’s speech accepting the Democratic nomination, and noted the following:

Obama said he could “pay for every dime” of his spending and tax cut proposals “by closing corporate loopholes and tax havens.” That’s wrong – his proposed tax increases on upper-income individuals are key components of paying for his program, as well. And his plan, like McCain’s, would leave the U.S. facing big budget deficits, according to independent experts.
He twisted McCain’s words about Afghanistan, saying, “When John McCain said we could just ‘muddle through’ in Afghanistan, I argued for more resources.” Actually, McCain said in 2003 we “may” muddle through, and he recently also called for more troops there.

He said McCain would fail to lower taxes for 100 million Americans while his own plan would cut taxes for 95 percent of “working” families. But an independent analysis puts the number who would see no benefit from McCain’s plan at 66 million and finds that Obama’s plan would benefit 81 percent of all households when retirees and those without children are figured in.
Obama asked why McCain would “define middle-class as someone making under five million dollars a year”? Actually, McCain meant that comment as a joke, getting a laugh and following up by saying, “But seriously …”
Obama noted that McCain’s health care plan would “tax people’s benefits” but didn’t say that it also would provide up to a $5,000 tax credit for families.

He said McCain, far from being a maverick who’s “broken with his party,” has voted to support Bush policies 90 percent of the time. True enough, but by the same measure Obama has voted with fellow Democrats in the Senate 97 percent of the time.

Obama said “average family income” went down $2,000 under Bush, which isn’t correct. An aide said he was really talking only about “working” families and not retired couples. And – math teachers, please note – he meant median (or midpoint) and not really the mean or average. Median family income actually has inched up slightly under Bush.

Create a video blog…instantly.
