On My Own asked:
He moved from Scranton to Delaware when he was 10. He’s like 65 now, so he hasn’t lived in PA for more than half a century! He’s been in Congress for 35 years and almost everyone I talked to here in southwestern PA never even heard of the guy before he was picked by Obama. Why is he acting like he’s from PA and understands the issues here? The state has changed slightly in the 55 years he’s been gone.

The same reason McSame keeps talking about being a POW!

Ther only roots he should be talking about are his disappearing hair roots.
Next time Chellie shaves her pits, she should send some of that brillo to Mr. hairplugs.

Maybe because he is a politician, a lousy one, but one.
He is just trying to get more votes.

It’s an attempt to reach blue collar workers.
Although, I’m not sure why Obama chose Biden since he was only capable of winning 9,000 votes during the primaries.
Scranton Pa
I haven’t lived in my home town in 40 years, but my roots are there. It was where many of my views and my ethics were forged.

Funniest part is his current house is in Chateau Country in Delaware.

To win PA clearly. Good strategy.

Pennsylvania is a swing state and crucial for the election. He probably doesn’t understand any PA issues. He is only pandering for votes. After all, you aren’t supposed to notice.

Because he is a just another lying politician. Sort of like when Bush, Sr. was running for president. His Texas address was an empty lot in Houston. Yeah, he was really “rooted” in Texas. (Bush, Jr. did indeed go to school here, though).

Why are YOU acting like you understand the issues in PA? I live in NY and we are a lot worse than PA. I know people from PA who have said that on numerous occasions. In fact, I know people who drive all the way up here for work from PA getting less than 10 dollars an hour for a management position.
And you say you know PA? Yeah right….

Because he is trying to get the Pennsylvania vote. They need it.

I think he convinced Obama he could deliver Pennsylvania. He cannot.

For the same reason John Edwards keeps going on about his dad being a mill-worker. Biden thinks it will somehow connect him with “the folks” and make them think he is one of their lot. Too bad the folks aren’t just a bunch of ignorant losers – they get this guy and know that Biden is a career politician, hardly one of the folks.

Basically, it is to show a connection to the average gun-clinging, xenophobic, religious middle class voter.
Far be it for a politican to show his true colors as an “I’m smarter than you” elitist.

It’s simple, a few days ago Biden, himself, said if Obama does not win Pennsylvania he stands no chance of winning this election, even Obama’s own campign has said they have throw millions of dollars at Pa. and Obama has not come up one point, this is why Obama chose Biden over Clinton, he needed the white Catholic blue collar votes…the same people he insulted with his comment about guns and bibles.

Political pandering nothin more nothing less.
He and Barry think they can win us over with the simple “I am from small-town Pennsylvania bs”
Scranton Pa
Why? It’s shows his background as growing up in a blue collar family.
This question is a little odd given the fact that the McCain camp keeps bringing up his POW his which also happen 35 years ago.

I believe Mr. Biden wants the Pa. votes and keeps bringing this up for such.

Because like Obama, he’s trying to be black.

I know it is funny to hear that. I was born and raised in Scranton, and I have not lived there since I was 17, when I graduated HS and moved to Philly for college. I would never go back there, it was a great safe place to grow up, but there are no good jobs there and I feel sorry for the people who I went to hs with who are stuck living there working in dead end jobs with 4 kids. He is just trying to get that blue collar vote, just like Hillary talked about her Scranton roots. Its all a game. lol

His father had to leave to get work more than half a century ago, and he would have to leave today. It’s nothing but a political ploy on Obama’s part since he got spanked so thoroughly in Pa.
I’m from the Scranton area and I take offense that Biden has all of a sudden “come home”. Where was he when this area was dying?
Politics around here are corrupt beyond belief. My children all had to leave so that they could earn a decent living. I’m not in the “in crowd”, so I wasn’t able to pull any strings.
Scranton has a poverty rate of 20% which would be even higher if they included those people who just missed the mark. And we were recently named to the Forbes list of top ten cities that were dying with no hope of recovery. Is that something of which to be proud?

he picked biden for his experience mainly, an area that according to the polls was killing him. the scranton born thing was a bonus after obama’s infamous san francisco comments. i understand both of those points, what i don’t understand is how it goes along with the change message and washington insiders when you pick a running mate who has been in washington for 35 yrs. seems a bit contradictive to me.

Honey,
I think this category has been the most popular for the past few months now, and will clear into the next few years because of the election. Frankly, yes he (Biden) mentions being from scranton alot, he mentions that as in his roots. All candidates mention where they are from, and hope to win over that state, or if not where they are from, they mention, over and over what they have done for that state, for the sake of winning the vote.
I am suprised you think PA slightly, many things have changed in the whole state of PA, especially when it comes to working middle to lower class families, education, and healthcare, and greatly over 55 years, may I add, that to the DelMarVa area (Delaware, Maryland & Virginia. There are costal states which are even worse off, and has gotten worse since George Bush Jr. came into office.
To be honest with you, it dosent matter where a person is from. Fact: Many Americans have not heard of McCain’s choice of Vice President, and that has been all over the airways, these past week.
Who cares where you are from?
Can you help our country?????????
Obama picked Biden because he’s a strong choice as far as foreign policies, things of that nature. Many people have heard of Biden, maybe not younger people like you, but i am sure of that, and then think of where your strenths/interests are, if its deeply into politics, then you have heard of him, if not, then maybe not.
I have heard, and known of the work of both nominated vice presidents.
What i didnt think was right was alot of the facts said about Biden, and Obama that were incorrect.
and then again, it doesn’t matter. When Clinton was in office they did the same thing to him, if you can remember, during the election.
He was mocked because they said he had no experience, and that he was too young to become president.
They made fun of his vice president he nominated……remember.
They were all furious(Republicans) about Clinton, as they tagged him the first Black President, which started as a joke, but became accepted by blacks, because of how so many people black/white were aable to get jobs, or earn more money, return to college, own homes, and he….HE LEAD US TO HAVING A RECORD HIGH SURPLUS, higher than any president……..ever…… and thats not a lie.
Everyone knew Clinton was really good. and Bush(currrent) spent this surplus in 1 and a half years, and we are now back into a deficite.
So i really don’t care where you are from, or how white or black you are, or how American you are for that matter.
It seems many people don’t know the full history of some of the heritage of our presidents from the past. Its in your history books, read them: If you had a drop of blood of African ancestry, you were considered black, and then considered not a person, but property……you were not considered a citizen, you were not considered a man.
We do need something new,we’ve been needing it for a long time. We do need change, no doubt about that. I think alot of people are afraid that it could possibly be done by a black, or half black, how ever you see him, MAN.
or that it could be done by a female, whether it would have been Hilary, or now the nominated vice pres.
Everyone has to sell themselves, thats how you get votes, thats how you get people to trust you.
When you are in office, its a completely different story.
and you hope with all your experience, everything will work out.
Whomever wins, i just hope we end up half as well off, as we were when Clinton was in office, and that will indeed take two terms, whomever gets the ticket to the whitehouse.
honeychild.
